Moving Forward

2006

The year 2006 found us planning to celebrate the one hundred fifth anniversary of the church building.  A committee was formed in January with Patricia Tolson and Dr. Cecelia Evans serving as co-chairs.

2007

Following the exciting year of the celebration of the One hundred fifth anniversary, our energies turned once again to the restoration and expansion plans for the church building.  In April of 2007, the Building Fund Committee received the support of the church in using the name Josiah Project.  We remembered the “boy King’’ Josiah, who restored the temple and removed all the idols,  He and the people pledged t “follow the Lord their God”. (2 Chronicles 34:35)

During that year plans were presented to the church from Linn Architects of Media, Pa for expanding the edifice.  It was at this time the installation “senior friendly” bathrooms on the first floor of the building became the first priority.  This consideration was made so our seniors could continue to attend church without fear of going downstairs for relief.  These plans were accepted by the church.

Later in 2007 a banquet was held for purpose of raising funds for the Josiah Project.  Dr. Leslie D. Callahan who was interim pastor at Salem Baptist Church in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, was the speaker.  She brought a message of hope and inspiration as she described the work and dedication of Josiah.

2008

In 2008, the stained glass window facing the east was restored.  The large stained glass window facing State Street was restored in 2009.  These improvements added to the beauty and integrity of the building.

2009

In April 2009, and early Sunday morning service was begun.  So there are two services on Sundays:  “Morning Glory” at 7:45 a.m. and the regular service at 11:00 a.m.

Also in April 2009, a fundraiser for the Josiah Project took place athe Towne House in Media.  Barbara Mills, a native of Chester, PA and an internationally known performer presented a mixture of songs.  A cookbook consisting of recipes from the member of the church was assembled and served as an additional fundraiser.  Sister Alice Vause coordinated this activity.

Plans for the restoration and expansion continued with Brother Herbert Morgan, our Project Manager, Brother Kenneth Day, our Assistant Project Manager and Linn Architects.  In a called meeting of the church on October 29, 2009 the members voted to accept the plans presented (option2).  Permission was granted to proceed with the needed expansion.  As of this writing the Trustees are research funding for the project.  Members are encouraged to continue with their prayers and hope that the plans will become a reality and that ground breaking will materialize later this year of 2010.

The Golden Link Missionary Circle has continued a Candlelight service for last four years on the first Sunday evening in December.  This service coordinated by Sister Patrician Tolson has brought together members of our church as well as members from the neighboring congregations in setting the tone for the celebration of Christmas in our community.  Each year Mother Olivia Presberry and Mother Iola Taylor are given recognition for having led this group for so many years.

2010

The year 2010 proved to be a year of continued accomplishments and thanksgiving.:

On Sunday April 21, 2010 Brother Jesse Kelly was ordained as a Deacon in and Ordination service at the church.
